Campaign For The Release of Missing Israeli Servicemen

Date:
30 September 2010

Show your support and solidarity with the family of Gilad Shalit and with families of other Israeli MIA's through the the MIA-UK Foundation.

The MIA-UK Foundation is the only UK based organisation dedicated solely to facilitating the release of Israel's service personnel who have been cited as ‘missing in action'.

Since the foundation of the State of Israel in 1948, over four hundred Israeli soldiers have been declared ‘Missing in Action'. They are generally known as the MIA.

Amongst those listed as missing are: Zachary Baumel, Yehuda Katz and Zvi Feldman, who were taken captive on 11 June 1982 whilst serving in the Lebanon. Ron Arad was taken prisoner in the Lebanon on 16 October 1986 and Guy Hever disappeared on the Golan Heights on 17 August 1997. More recently, Gilad Schalit who was taken 25 June 2006.

In keeping with the aims of the International Coalition for the Missing Israeli Servicemen, MIA-UK is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation dedicated entirely to the humanitarian cause of this agenda.

Why MIA-UK Foundation?

MIA-UK is the only organisation in the UK dedicated exclusively to this cause. It is agreed by many that because the UK holds a prestigious position in world affairs, it is ideally placed to further the cause of these missing men. MIA-UK was formed following legal advice.

Aims of MIA-UK Foundation

The foundation has three principal aims:

To keep the status of the MIA in the public eye – they must not be forgotten!

To campaign for their release.

To take any necessary measures (including the gathering of evidence/intelligence) which would facilitate the release of these men to their native homeland.

There are at least three ways in which you can take action:-

LETTER WRITING

There is a saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. I cannot emphasise the importance the effect that not only a letter, but a simple postcard, can have on the campaign; and from the more people the better. Write to your local Member of Parliament, your local Member of European Parliament (MEP), the Foreign Office (including the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Rt Hon Margaret Beckett, Whitehall, London SW1A 2AH.

Write to the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Mr Gordon Brown MP, 10 Downing Street, London.

Write to the President of the International Red Cross: Mr Jacob Kellenberger, President, International Committee of the Red Cross, 19 Avenue de la Paix, CH1202, Geneva, Switzerland.

Write to the Secretary General of the United Nations: Mr Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, New York, NY 10017, USA or email: inquiries@un.org

Write to the Israel Embassy either in London or to the Prime Minister of Israel in Jerusalem asking that the cause of these men be made part of any peace negotiations.

PETITION

Petition signing has a double effect. (1) It tells those in authority that you require them to act in a way to help you. (2) It helps to enforce our work. (3) It can sway decision or policy making.

FUND RAISING

Fund raising is not to be undervalued. For years, the MIA campaign in the UK has been looked at as a 'Cinderella' concern. We feel these men who have given their all for Israel deserve better, as do their families. There is so much more we could do with your help.
